Between November 2001 and October 2003 the CEBD in partnership with the Language Studies Department, led the Languages for Special Purposes (LSP) project. It was during this project that partners from 6 European countries (UK, Poland, Bulgaria, France, Belgium and Holland) developed a language package for truck drivers, including language prompt cards and a language course.

The language prompt cards have been welcomed by the industry and commercial sales of these cards are the outcome. Eurotunnel ordered 8000 bespoke sets of cards in Hungarian, Bulgarian, Spanish and French and distributed them out to drivers from across Europe.

The language course was completed during the first phase but there was a need for further testing.  This new project, which started in 2004 and finishes in March 2007 has enabled the partnership, with 2 additional Partners in Spain and UK to create a user-friendly and versatile audio based language course which can be used by drivers in their cabs or in Vocational Training Organisations.

The final revisions have now been made according to feedback and a fully validated and tested audio version (with the option of an additional paper-based plus CD/cassette) language course will be available to the industry in March of 2007.
